Me procrastinating
My male protag is pissing me off. He (and by "he", I mean "me", and by "me", I really mean "I") can't decide whether he thinks my female protag is guilty or innocent. He also can't figure out when he should realize that he's in love with said female protag. Really, I think the man is schizo and he's ruining my story! It's a very good story, but he's filling the thing with plot-holes galore. Sheesh. It's times like these when I really wished I was a plotter. I might try it - attempt to make some sort of outline. I mean, I know what happens in my head, but apparently my characters' motivations are inconsistent. I think I shall procrastinate making a decision about this dilemma by telling a few stories of my week.
And, yesterday, I got to meet the fabulous and soon to be famous
kazdreamer in London. She "dragged" me to two specialty book stores, MurderOne and Forbidden Planet, and I got to talk about writing and books and querying and agents and publishing and lots of other stuff without boring anyone (hopefully!).
Okay. I think I'm done procrastinating for now. I guess I'll get back to the manuscript and see if I can work through some kinks.
<grumble> stupid, stupid protags <grumble>
We went to a soccer game on Saturday with Trey's coworker, Elesh, who is Very Cool. The game was awesome. It was considered a “friendly” game. I think that means it doesn’t count for anything and it’s kind of like a preseason game or scrimmage. Elesh thought it would be a good one to go to because the fans shouldn’t have been out of control. He forgot, however, to take into consideration that we (‘we’ being Fulham) were playing against the Scottish national team. Apparently, they have a reputation for being slightly crazy. It was really weird. Trey and I got off the bus and there was nothing but green and white shirts everywhere. I kept asking Trey if they were the home team. He kept saying no, but seriously, everyone was in green and white. And they were singing. Nonstop. Pubs were overflowing with these people and with them waving these humongous Celtic flags, it was quite intimidating. I think I now know how it feels to be the opposing team at a Texas A&M game. Of course, it wasn’t *that* loud. The announcer guy came on the loud speaker and said the day’s attendance was 16,000 or so. Trey and I laughed. A&M had an average attendance of over 80,000 people last year. http://www.aggieathletics.com/index2.php?S ID=MFB&pageID=900
Anyway, this was the first time we’ve ever been to a soccer game and I have to say, I am officially a fan. I wonder if that means I have to call it 'football' now?
On Sunday, we went to Dover which is on the southern coast of the country. Did you know you can actually see France from the UK? I didn't. I always thought they were much farther apart. Anyway, Dover was pretty cool. You've probably seen pictures of it - it's the place with the white cliffs. The part I liked the most was the underground tunnels. They weren't all *that* impressive, but the history in them was. They actually used those tunnels during WWII. The castle was some kind of fortified base type thing. This completely shocked me. I just can't wrap my mind around the fact that they used a castle for a military command center in WWII. I mean, this was only sixty something years ago. It hits me as funny, and I think it's just because I can't imagine a castle being something other than a tourist attraction.

I must research this! (ahem, can you tell I'm procrastinating still?)
And I was totally NOT bored! In fact, I intend posting my own entry about our meeting... Today just went a bit crazy (well, late afternoon onwards) and kinda ran away with me. Tomorrow... Tomorrow is another day! ;) I will catch up on everything then. *Sigh*
I can't believe this. Kaz has met everybody, including my pal Liz and I haven't.
You can see the UK from Calais, that much I can tell you. It was too dark when I was at Dover to see whether I could see Calais--part of a crazy weekend trip to Amsterdam by bus.
Crazy weekend trip to Amsterdam? Sounds like fun. :-)
And I'm never ever getting on a coach again.
